柳宗理 ステンレスケトル / Sori Yanagi Kettle Matte

柳宗理を象徴する代表作のひとつです。
一見すると静かで控えめな佇まいですが、その美しいかたちを実現するため、製造工程は非常に繊細。機械化できる工程は限られ、溶接や研磨など多くの作業を15の小さな工場の職人たちが分担して手がけています。そのため、ひと月に生産できる数は約2,000台。

マット仕上げのステンレスボディは軽やかで丈夫。広く平らな底面は熱効率が良く、素早くお湯を沸かすことができます。注ぎやすさを考えたハンドルは、手にやさしく、使うたびに心地よさを感じさせます。

The Stainless Steel Kettle is the signature product designed by Sori Yanagi.

Due to its subtle shape, the manufacturing of this kettle involves an elaborate process. As little of the work can be done by machine, the welding and grinding require the expertise of fifteen small factories. As a result, only 2000 of these kettles can be produced a month, turning the efficient boiling of water into art. 

This matte-finished stainless steel kettle is lightweight and durable with a wide flat base designed for rapid boiling. The offset ergonomic bakelite handle makes it a joy to pour.

On a lighter note, Japanese kettles don't whistle because traditionally, they used to sit on top of a freestanding stove in the kitchen in winter to keep the room warm and moist like a modern-day humidifier and always ready with hot water for making tea and cooking.
